How to play
Guess words. Lots of them. At the same time. Wordlanche is a word puzzle with up to 16 words at once. That's really all the rules you need. But here they are anyway.
Made for Twitch
You stream
- Log in first. Top right, “Log in” with Twitch. Free, no new account, no new password.
- One link for good. Your viewer link sits hidden at the top of the game. One click copies it. It stays the same for every game, so put it in your panel once and you're done.
- Your chat guesses along. If someone types
#1 HOUSEin chat, a light bulb lights up on board 1. Click it and the word goes into your row. Press Enter to send it. - Stuck? With
## WORDyour chat suggests a word that tests as many unused letters as possible. The light bulb next to the keyboard lights up. - You're in charge. Click your name: change the commands (if your bot already listens to
#), turn the light bulbs on or off and set how many words each viewer may suggest. - Who's watching? The viewer count sits hidden next to it. One click reveals it, on your stream too. So only click if everyone may see it.
- Away for a bit? Your chat gets a heads-up and can play on their own meanwhile. When you're back, your viewers get a notice and are back with you in one click.
You watch
- Click the link or enter the code. On the start page under “Watch” or straight from the link in chat.
- Live down to the letter. You see every word while it's being typed. The answers only show at the end.
- New game? You're in. When the streamer starts over, you jump along automatically.
- Your view, your rules. Zoom, colors, boards per row and keyboard are set just for you. The streamer doesn't notice a thing.
In your first game a short tour shows you everything on the real screen. Bring it back here.

Gray. Not in the word. Moving on.
Only the letters A to Z. No accents, no hyphens, no apostrophes.
The avalanche
- One guess, every board. Each word lands on every open board at the same time.
- Solved fades out. A finished board turns green and blurs so you can focus on the rest. Click it to bring it back into focus.
- All or nothing. If even one word is left open at the end, the game is lost. The avalanche shows no mercy.
- The keyboard knows more. With several words, every key shows small color patches, one per board.
- Type where you want. Click a tile in the current row and the next letter lands right there. Arrow keys work too.
Three ways to play
- Daily
- Classic: one word, five letters, the same for everyone. One try per day, no restart. Want more? Under “More daily puzzles” there are 14 variants up to 16 words. New puzzles start at midnight New York time.
- Free game
- As often as you like, however you like. Perfect for practice before the daily puzzle embarrasses you.
- Watch
- Code or link from the streamer and you watch live. Guess along in your head or in chat.
Setting up a free game
- Letters
- 4, 5 or 6. Short doesn't automatically mean easy.
- Words
- 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16. At 16 it's no longer a game, it's a life decision.
- Max guesses
- How much room you give yourself. Fewer guesses, more glory.
- Real words only
- On: only words from the dictionary count. Off: even “QQQQQ” goes through. Rarely helps.
Settings (gear at the top right)
- Dark mode
- Dark blue is the default. Light is there for early birds.
- Boards per row
- Auto shows up to 4 side by side. Or fixed at 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
- Confetti
- Three cannons when you win. Has to be.
- Helper mode
- Green letters already show faintly in the next row. For anyone who wants to keep track across 16 boards.
- Colorblind mode
- Own colors for red-green or blue-yellow color blindness, or no colors at all.
- Symbols on letters
- Bar = right spot, dot = wrong spot. For anyone who would rather read than decode colors.
- Animations
- Flipping, shaking, blinking. Off means: everything stays still.
- Keyboard
- QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ or ABC. And Enter and Delete may swap sides.
Good to know
- Zoom
- − and + in the status bar or Ctrl + mouse wheel over the boards. Click the percentage to go back to 100 %.
- Stats
- Win rate, streaks, guess distribution, recent games. Without logging in they belong to your browser.
- Log in with Twitch
- Then your stats are tied to your account and follow you to every device.
- Sync
- Keep playing on other devices without Twitch: your code is on the sync page. Treat it like a password.
- Click the logo
- Takes you to the start page. Your current game waits patiently.
Quick questions
- Is Wordlanche free?
- Yes. Wordlanche is free, runs right in your browser and needs no install and no account.
- How does the word puzzle work?
- You guess words with 4 to 6 letters. Green means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means it is in the word but somewhere else, gray means it is not in the word. Every word you type counts for all boards at once.
- How many words can I play at once?
- You choose: 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 words at the same time. Every guess is checked against all boards.
- Is there a daily puzzle?
- Yes. Every day there is a new daily word with five letters, the same for everyone, plus 14 more variants up to 16 words. New puzzles start at midnight New York time.
- How does my Twitch chat play along?
- Log in with Twitch. If your chat types #1 HOUSE, for example, a light bulb with the suggestion appears on board 1. One click enters the word.
Three pro tips
- Start with lots of different, common letters. E, A, R, S, T and O are your friends.
- With many boards: crack the boards with the most hits first, the others often solve themselves along the way.
- Don't type gray letters again. Sounds obvious, happens to everyone anyway.
